Fulfilling Week
This is what we call a full week with two exchanges, traditional Wedding, 4 baptisms, and a makeshift Thanksgiving! I'll try my best to explain everything.
So Tuesday I led my first District Council! I was a little nervous to start but it went really well! I also gave the Preach My Gospel training and that also went really well. After that we went to eat some fufu then back to our area. Once we got back nothing to interesting happend. We just tried to go around teaching people trying to prepare our people for baptism.
Wednesday I had an exchange with an area called Klagon. Since I am a District Leader I have to go and interview people in my District for baptism. So we went on an exchange the whole day where we taught people in there area and then in the evening time I interviewed 4 people for baptism. It's pretty tiring but we made it through. Everyone passed!
Thursday was a crazy day for three reasons. 1st is that we had an exchange again but this time it was my zone leaders coming to my area. Again I was tired at the end of the day but it was fun being with them. We had some people of our own we were preparing for baptism so they had to also come interview them. They all passed! 2nd was that the Ghana football (soccer) team was playing in the World Cup this day and it felt like the whole country of Ghana was watching this game. As I was riding my bike to an appointment on the exchange with a Ghanaian, the Ghana team scores and all of the sudden everyone is shouting and banging and honking yelling GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!! It was a wild experience haha. But the energy was so high it was so cool to see how a whole country or at least region was united. Then later that day they scored again. But unfortunately the Ghana team lost in the end. 3rd is Thanksgiving! Actually nothing too crazy here because it was just like a normal day. Nobody celebrates it so Elder Bentley and I got some pizza to celebrate ourselves haha. Good Times in Africa.
Friday we got invited to a traditional wedding. Last minute invitation. So it was around 11 and Elder Bentley I just finished eating Gobe which is like bean stew and rice which FILLS you up and then we follow our second councilor to the wedding at our Chapel and it was way cool. People were dancing and taking pictures and I saw the Bride price (in Ghana you basically have to pay the parents of the bride to take her has wife) kinda messed up not going to lie. But it was cool to see. It was pretty traditional so we were trying our best not to offend anyone. But then they put us in this other room and this lady comes with MORE food like 4 balls of bonku and stew. If you don't know bonku then look it up but this stuff also fills you up. I thought we were going to explode but we got through it. It was a good time. After the wedding we had weekly planning and some appointments after that.
Saturday we went up to katamonsu as you already know. Taught our people over there. We were also able to do some service which isn't really common here in Ghana so that was nice. Just washing some clothes and moving water but it was good! Solid day.
Sunday! Sunday was a good day. It was awesome to see all the members and connect with everyone. After church we had our baptisms!! This baptism was a lot more organised and we had a lot more support than the last one which was really nice. This was probably one of my favorite baptims thus far on my mission because of isaac. As most of you know isaac has gone through a lot to get to this point. He has made a lot of sacrifices and has been made stronger for it. But guys the spirit was so strong when he got in that water and when he came out he was just shining!! Was definitely a tender moment for him and us. Pictures of them below. Isaac is the one I am standing next to. I am also proud of Mabel and Emmanuel for making the decision to baptise and follow God and Jesus. They have strong Testimonies so it was way cool to see everyone. A great experience for sure. They will all be confirmed this coming Sunday. After church we had some appointments and I also went to go see Ruth. She is doing well! She still hasn't been able to talk with the missionaries in her area where she worships but she is hoping to do that this Wednesday so I'm excited to see where this goes. In the evening time I had to do my weekly calls with everyone in my District so that took some time but at the end of the day I was grateful for this whole week. Its been a good one.
That sums up my week for now. It was a good yet tiring one. I'm grateful for all that I have. I love you all so much! This week we have interviews with President Young so we will see how that goes and I'll tell you if he says anything interesting. I have another exchange also this Wednesday so that should be fun. Also Facebook and Messanger have been taken out of our mission as of this week so if you have anything you want me to see or want to message me, please do it here on email!! Not Messanger or Facebook. OK I think that is it for this week. I'm also going to attach some pictures from stake conference that we had last week. Unlike in America, people take pictures and hire professional photographers for stake conferences here haha. OK love you all! Till next week.
Much Love,
Elder Busschau.
