Purpose = Happiness
Hello Everyone!!
This week has been a good week. Last Wednesday was the beginning of my third transfer and I am officially out of training. Whoop whoop!
Tuesday we were able to find two new people in our other area called Legon. These two guys are students and we were surprised they even had time to do so. Luckily everyone is on vacation break we have come to find out so that is cool. They are actually very smart and one of them is studying Chinese and is the Chinese language president at the University. We taught them about half of the Plan of Salvation but they were having a hard time understanding that the fall of Adam and eve was part of the Plan so we have some work to do. They are pretty cool though.
Not sure if I have mentioned him before but we have been teaching this gentleman named George and he is just so ready. He literally came up to us and said I want to be baptized but the bishop said I have to talk with you guys first so teach me haha. So we have been and he gets baptized this Sunday if he passes his interview!
One thing I've really started to notice here especially people not in a dedicated church is lack of purpose which leads to lack of happiness. Every single time we ask how are you or how is your day going, it is always the same answer back: "I'm fine" or "it's normal" or my favorite "by gods grace" Haha. Nobody ever really says "Great!" Or "I'm good!" It's just fine. But I see people in the church and when I ask them, most of the time it's "Very good!" Or "I'm great!". This makes me think "OK what is the difference between people in the church and people outside?" Now there are the obvious answers to this question but those answers don't really suit the situation here where I am at. So I look deeper, and since I've been here for the time I have, one thing I know is that people just hustle and that's it. Just living for the money. Then it hit me. They have lack of purpose! Which is lack of fulfilment. Which leads to lack of happiness. Now the people in the church are also hustling so why are they feeling fulfilment? Because they know their purpose here on earth. They are not hustling for the soul purpose of money but to get the money to help their families and to give back. Not mainly to buy materialistic items to make themselves look cool. And this is a by product of what the church produces, purpose and fulfilment and to have confidence everyday to know who we are and why we do it. And that's what I'm trying to give to people now here in Ghana. Thought I'd share hope that makes sense.
Anyways tomorrow we have zone council and we will see who all came into the zone this new transfer and make some goals.
That's about it for this week, hope you are all doing fine, no I hope you are all doing great! As always I appreciate the support from home and the motivation to keep on going.
One last thing, I read this in quote from President Monson and I thought it was inspiring. "God doesn't call the qualified, he qualifies the called."
Best,
Elder Busschau.
